At the end of Playa Mermejita is an unassuming cave entrance:

It doesn’t take long for it to get pretty narrow.. and once past that only a small area opens up, with nothing more than a hole to crawl through, if you dare.

But why am I talking about his pretty insignificant caving experience? Because, living here is a colony of bats.

You may see some if you enter even the first part of the cave, and if you venture through the (damp and ammonia-reeking) crawling hole, you will find yourself in amongst them where they roost.. bats zipping past your head and squeaking their little hearts out! (I feel it’s important to add that we were unaware when we did this of the disease that bats can carry and how it’s transmitted.. so you may want to research that before crawling through the spaces you’re most likely to be infected)
