England, Somerset, Cheddar: Cheddar gorge

The Cheddar Gorge Caves (aka Goughs Cave) are somehow smaller than I expected, making them great for those with kids or seeking a short wander. It was high-season when we went so there were a lot of people around, increasing the touristic feel, but it was still worth the visit.

The town itself is very touristy, but in a cute way. The cafes are quaint, the small museum informative, and the buildings back onto the gorge so getting a goat on the roof is just one example of the little things that make this place fun.

Perhaps my favourite part of the day, the walk along the top of the gorge provides beautiful views, roaming goats, and an opportunity to warm up in the sun.

To visit, park in one of the car parks at either end of the village (51°16’58.5″N 2°45’54.9″W or 51°16’54.2″N 2°46’10.4″W), or take a bus – 126 (hourly, Mon-Sat) from Weston-super-Mare, Axbridge and Wells, or, 668 (2 hourly, Mon-Sat) from Street, Wedmore and Shipham.
