We took a wander here after coming down through Shanklin Chine. The coastline is littered with sea caves used by smugglers in days gone but the one we were searching for is the cave of carvings, reputed to be in the Luccombe bay area, it’s location is a well-kept secret and we had to turn back as the tide started coming in but we will definitely go back for another search one day. Even without finding this cave, the beach itself is a wonderful walk with dramatic landslide backdrops meeting the sandy shore.

We were parked in Shanklin and walked down to the beach through Shanklin Chine. To access the beach without doing this, you can park on the esplanade or Hope Road carpark (50°38’01.3″N 1°10’10.7″W).
