Silbury Hill is a prehistoric artificial chalk mound comparing roughly in height and volume to the contemporary Egyptian pyramids. We parked at Silbury Hill car park, which has a viewpoint directly off of it, and took a walk around the hill.
We then continued to West Kennet Long Barrow – one of the largest and most impressive Neolithic chambered tombs in Britain, built in around 3650 BC. An unexpected extra treat was the swallows nesting in the barrow.

To get here: Park at Silbury Hill car park (51°24’58.6″N 1°51’44.3″W) or West Kennet Long Barrow layby (51°24’51.2″N 1°51’07.5″W). The walk from Silbury Hill car park to West Kennet Long Barrow (going around Silbury hill) took about an hour with a child.
