Fern Canyon is definitely in my top 10 of places I’ve been lucky to have had the honour to be in! The level trail follows Home Creek as it courses through the forest. This modest stream has over the aeons carved a canyon through the rich sedimentary soils. The canyon walls sprout an amazing variety of luxuriant ferns and other moisture-loving plants, along with an abundance of mushrooms. Also in the vicinity is Gold Bluffs Beach, a great way to experience two very different environments in one day.
To get here, from Highway 101 at Orick, drive down the unpaved Davison Road 10 miles, pass Gold Bluffs Beach and you will eventually reach the end of vehicle accessibility, continue on foot to reach this spectacular canyon.
