After a couple days wandering the dales and moors, we arrived in Malham. At the northern end of Craven Fault (a 22 mile geological fault line which runs from the borders of Cumbria into Yorkshire), Malham creates a great walking environment, with lot’s packed into a small area.

The waterfall at Gordale Scar is particularly enjoyable, and if you feel up to climbing it you’ll be rewarded with stunning views from the top.

The stream flowing through the scar (Gordale Beck) travels through the gorge, then flows over Janet’s Foss before joining Malham Beck a couple of miles downstream to form the River Aire. Also in the vicinity are Malham Cove and Limestone Pavements.

There is a National Trust car park in Malham (54°03’36.7″N 2°09’17.1″W). Though if you arrive early there is also street parking both in Malham and near Gordale Scar.
